Hi, I’m John Cotton — a Chartered Accountant by profession, and these days, someone passionate about helping others thrive in today’s fast-moving digital economy.

My journey began in Melbourne, Australia, where I trained with one of the (then) Big Eight accounting firms — now known as the Big Four. Over the years, I’ve worked around the world, including time in London with a Big Four firm during the pioneering days of Risk Management and Risk-Based Internal Auditing. What might sound dry on paper was, in reality, an exciting and formative experience during a transformative time in corporate services.

After two decades abroad, I returned to Australia and moved into the world of accounting recruitment — essentially helping accountants find other accountants. In 2016, I founded Barnaby Recruitment to offer not only professional placement services but also guidance and mentorship to the next generation. I’ve found real joy in sharing my experiences, and I’m often told that conversations with me can be a turning point in someone’s career (a young client once likened it to “talking with my grandfather”—a compliment, I hope!).

These days, I’m channeling my experience into something new: supporting businesses with the tools and resources they need to succeed in the digital marketplace — particularly through smart email and list-building solutions.

Despite the years etched on my face, I feel younger than ever on the inside — and I’m excited to keep learning, sharing, and contributing.
